Just keep swimming..

So move. Check. Unpacked.. eh, not so much. We’re still living amongst boxes. Lucky for us, we don’t own much so it’s not too overwhelming. Just overwhelming enough that I don’t know where to start and therefore haven’t unpacked anything in a week or something like that. Chris and I have decided to that we’ll unpack tonight. Good thing. We have a friend coming over tomorrow. Eh. Not that I need it spotless. It’s just a playdate for the girls to run around and mess it all up anyway.

We love our new area! There are some parking snafus which kinda stink. But all in all, not having to climb 4 flights of stairs freakin’ rocks! And we opted for the less expensive option of NOT having a washer and dryer in our apartment (it was $200 more per month AND on the 2nd or 3rd floor). Plus, we would have had the same floor plan, but one of our desperately needed closets would have housed a stackable washer and dryer. You know how TINY those washers and dryers are anyway!

The laundry room is down one flight of stairs (the stairs are directly in front of our door). Then about 30 feet from the garage door. So really it’s not bad. Plus I can get 3-4 loads of laundry done in 2 hours! That includes folding it and putting it away! It’s never crowded because alot of the apartments, since being renovated have washers and dryers. So I get all the machines to myself! It’s about $2.30 per load (thats washing and drying) so I think it’s going to cost about $15-17 a week to do laundry. But consider this: We won’t be paying for the water OR the energy to do the laundry in our apartment, nor the energy to cool down the apartment from having the dryer heat things up. Plus, did you see that I said 3-4 loads done in 2 hours? That my friends, is priceless. SO far I think I’ll be doing laundry 2 times a week, with an extra load a week for sheets/random extra stuff. I am going to get a drying rack for the balcony but when I originally thought about doing that I neglected to figure in the fact that it’s going to be Fall/Winter soon, meaning that laundry hung out to dry won’t dry very well in the cold. In fact, I’m starting to think about my friends with kids and the laundry that tends to pile up.. and I’m beginning to think that a twice weekly visit to do laundry at a laundromat doesn’t sound so bad (if I lived in a house with just a washer/dryer). Of course, even better would be having 2 washers and 2 dryers. Or one of those really fancy washers and dryers that does the equivelent of 2-3 loads at once. That works too.

So things are settling down some, for a couple weeks anyway, until the girls start school. In 3 weeks I’ll be into the 2nd trimester and then into the holiday fast track (you know, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New years, Valentines Day, BABY’s BIRTH!, Easter…). I have a feeling once the girls start school, time is going to fly even more than usual.

I would love to blog more.. we’ll see how that goes.  Thanks for checking in!
