Cake Tips for the Home Baker

Any baker knows there are some tips you can learn from the cooking shows on direct tv and some you have to learn in the kitchen. We’ve put together a short list of the things you need to know to make better cakes and we’re sharing them with you!
Keep it Cold – It’s much easier to spread frosting and cut a cake down to size when it’s cold so consider putting it in the fridge or even freezing it for a few hours before you get to it. It will decrease the mess and leave you with smoother frosting.
Use Mayo – We know, we know, it sounds gross but if you replace at least half of the oil in your recipe you’re going to come out with a much smoother, moister cake and people will ask you what your secret is!
Use Supports – If you plan on stacking your cake you should reinforce it with some wooden dowels. If you don’t have those use some strong plastic straws but be sure to warn everyone when they eat that they’re in there!
